Smelly feet are awfully uncomfortable to you as well as others and are caused due to bromhidrosis which occurs due to excessive feet sweating.  It is caused by bacteria which lives on your foot skin and plays the bad guy by feeding on your sweat to give out the intolerable foul smell. You are nicely dressed for an occasion and the moment you open your shoes, the stench sends everyone running away from it – It indeed is super embarrassing. It is normal and can happen to anyone but you do have the option to reduce it by adopting these simple home remedies for stinky feet.

Salt Water

It is very beneficial in treating smelly feet as it has anti – microbial functions which help in reducing bacterial attack that causes the foul odour. Kosher salt is usually used for treating foot smell. Add 2 to 3 teaspoon of Kocher salt to a Litre of hot water, soak your feet for a while before going to bed and go off to sleep by simply towel drying. Epsom Salt can be also used as effective remedy to treat smelly feet. Mix 2 teaspoons of the salt in one litre of water, soak your feet for 20 minutes and dry off. Since salt has detoxifying potential it will greatly help in reducing feet smell. Ensure you do it regularly before going to bed.

Baking Soda

Baking soda helps in killing the odour causing bacteria and also helps in keeping feet clean and sweat free. It helps in neutralising the pH of the sweat and thus helps in effectively controlling the smell. Take one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it in water, soak your feet for 20 minutes before going off to sleep. A solution of baking powder with water and lemon is also very effective in reducing smelly feet.

Vinegar

It is responsible for reducing the bacteria on feet that causes feet odour. Mix vinegar and water in the ratio of 1:2, soak feet for 20 minutes and pat dry. Vinegar is acidic in nature which makes it difficult for the bacteria to survive in such environment. Plain vinegar can be used but in order to get better results prefer using apply cider vinegar,

Black Tea

Black Tea is not only beneficial to our health with its rich anti oxidant content but also has proved helpful in reducing smelly feet due to its rich tannic acid content which kills bacteria by creating an acidic environment. It also reduces sweat by clogging the pores. Boil a mixture of 2 black tea bags in 3 to 4 cups of water, add normal water to the mixture and soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes everyday to see quick result.

Lavender Oil

It is essential and therapeutic oil when it comes to treating smelly feet as it has anti fungal properties which reduce stinking feet caused by fungal growth. Add few drops of lavender oil in warm water soak your feet for 20 minutes and pat dry. Practise this regularly every day before going to bed and curb the awful odour of feet.

Sugar

It is sweet but hard on the dead skin which acts as natural exfoliate in removing dead skin that causes foul odour and controls feet smell. A sugar scrub can be used regularly to keep feet happy and clean. Make a thick mixture of sugar with water, add few drops of isopropyl alcohol to it and scrub your feet for 15 minutes to remove the dead skin and eliminate bacterial growth.

Apart from these home remedies there are many other things that you need to take care of to keep your feet happy and free from stench. Always purchase socks and shoes of good material which provide more ventilation and less sweating. Ensure that you wear socks with shoes to prevent bacterial attack on bare foot and try to not repeat same pair of socks for two days. Try looking for sock made of natural material like cotton. After coming home, properly wash your feet, use anti bacterial soap and talc to keep your feet happily breathing. Check your food habits and avoid too spicy food.
