Diabetes is one of the pre-dominant health conditions where there is increased concentration of blood glucose, a condition called Hyperglycemia. The major cause of diabetes is the inability of our body to produce insulin hormone (Type -1 Diabetes) or inability of respond to insulin present in our body (Type-2 Diabetes). Insulin takes part in absorption of glucose. Here are few things that will reduce the risk of diabetes and keep it under control.
A. Bitter Gourd
It increases the metabolism of glucose and helps in lowering the glucose concentration in blood level due to presence of compounds like charatin and momordicin. Bitter gourd contains insulin polypeptide –P which has similar biochemical features as insulin produced by pancreases and thus is very effective in treating diabetes. Extract the bitter guard juice and drink twice a week in empty stomach by diluting with water.
The rich Vitamin C content is known to promote the function of pancreas that in turn stimulate the production of insulin and effectively lower the blood glucose level. Consume one gooseberry as fruit everyday. Alternatively grind 3 to 4 gooseberries, extract the juice from the paste, add water to dilute the juice and consume one glass of it everyday.
It reduces blood sugar level and also stimulates the production of insulin. Cinnamon is rich in polyphenol and anti-oxidant which effectively reduces risk to diabetes. Cinnamon is rich in coumarin and it is not good for liver, which is why too much of cinnamon consumption will risk your liver. Boil 3 to 4 sticks of cinnamon in water, allow it to cool and consume the liquid.
D. Black Currant
Black Currant contains a glycoside called jamboline and jambosine, which efficiently prevents or interfere the conversion of starch into sugar, thus reducing the sugar level in the bloodstream. Black current is also rich in concentration of anthocyanins, tannins and other anti-oxidants which help in reducing the blood sugar level. Consume 6 to 8 black currant every day. Alternatively you can mix one tablespoon of Jamun powder with warm milk and consume regularly.
Neem is very effective for patients suffering from Type – II diabetes as they enhance the sensitivity of the receptors for binding to insulin which in turn reduces the blood sugar level and also help in dilating the blood vessels. Consume neem juice made of its tender shoots every morning in empty stomach.
F. Mango Leaves
The young mango leaves are very effective in treating diabetes as they improve the insulin production which reduces the blood glucose level. Collect the young mango leaves and dry them under sun, grind them to make powder and consume half spoon of the powder every day with water. Alternatively you may soak the leaves for 10 to 12 hours in water and later consume the water in empty stomach.
G. Flax Seeds
It reduces cholesterol and aids proper digestion. It contains high fibre and its daily consumption is known to reduce the sugar content of a diabetic person effectively. Grind the flax seeds to make powder form, consume one tablespoon of flax seeds every morning in empty stomach with a glass of warm water.
Daily exercise, workout and proper sleep is equally important to reverse the effect of Diabetes.
