Health Canada has issued recall notices over several sunscreens, which sparks debate over contamination and safety issues. Suntegrity Impeccable Skin Sunscreen Foundation is among them, since it has been contaminated with a fungus that may cause irritation, allergic reactions and worsening infection in immunocompromised persons. Several batches are affected by the recalls. The pest was identified to consist of the Aspergillus Sydowii fungus, which is dangerous if inhaled as it causes breathing issues. Consumers should stop using the product and seek a health provider right away if they notice rashes or experience other lung-related issues.
Another concerning recall is Neutrogena aerosol spray sunscreens that contain more benzene than what is legal as it has been linked to some cancers. The Neutrogena products under recall include Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen with SPF 30, 45, 60, and Beach Defense Kids SPF 60. The company is recalling these following huge complaints concerning the presence of benzene in them. Benzene has been a known carcinogenic agent that, following prolonged exposure, has significant health implications. The products had sold across Canadian markets; it is now under a recall for safety reasons .
Health Canada is informing consumers to check whether the sunscreen products purchased by them come in one of those recalled, checking the batch number and date. All adverse reactions or health concerns need to be reported to Health Canada for further examination. It is of great importance that people keep themselves updated regarding the safety of the products they use every day, such as sunscreen.
